In this video I’m talking about oxalate dumping, histamine intolerance and a little about mold and how they’re all connected. If you’re new to carnivore, oxalate dumping might be something that you’re not be aware of or that is new to you.
Oxalate can have a significant impact on our health and can cause some annoying and hard to deal with symptoms on your carnivore journey!
What is Oxalate and Why is it Harmful?
Oxalate is a toxin, plain and simple. It's highly acidic and binds to essential minerals like calcium and magnesium, rendering them useless in our bodies and often leading to nutritional deficiencies.
This nasty substance can even cause joint pain, muscle and tendon discomfort, and a variety of gut, brain, and other issues. In some severe cases, it may even trigger cancer.
Understanding Oxalate Dumping
Oxalate is often stored in our bodies because it's poison for us—it can literally kill us if levels get too high in the blood. Oxalate is highly acidic and can form crystals that cause all sorts of irritation and inflammation in our tissues, muscles, and tendons.
It's a common culprit behind muscle pain and joint pain, commonly attributed to arthritis.
If you’ve been affected by mold, like I had, there's a strong connection between mold and oxalate. They influence one another and can make you seriously ill because mold can actually create oxalate in your body, causing an oxalate issue or making a high oxalate condition worse that it would otherwise be.
When your body decides to rid itself of excess oxalate, it can result in what's known as "oxalate dumping." This process, while necessary, can cause pain and inflammation, anxiety, depression, or even neurological issues. It comes in waves that can be days, weeks or months apart.
My Experience with Oxalate Dumping
In my experience, my body primarily dumps oxalate through my bowels (which is obviously a whole bunch of fun), leading to unpleasant symptoms like sandy and burning diarrhea. It feels similar to when you've had an especially hot curry….
Sometimes, the oxalate leaves your body through the skin, appearing like bits of sand or crystals. This has happened to me often over the last couple of years, but one experience surpasses all the others.
I experienced a significant release of oxalate crystals from my breasts one day, which was a somewhat bizarre, and unexpected experience to say the least. The crystals actually looked like little crystals, some being up to 2mm long, and I made a video about the experience, with photos of some of the crystals, that you can find here.
That experience, and the sheer number of these crystals that came out of me, spurred me to investigate if there was a connection to breast cancer. As I researched, I found a startling revelation—yes, there's evidence that oxalate can indeed cause various cancers, inluding breast cancer.
Coping and Moving Forward
Starting by slowing removing oxalate from your diet can make the journey easier. But If you're like me and tend to dive headfirst into things rather than taking it slow, just prepare yourself for the journey. Oxalate dumping can make life tough at times. Watch my video on this for a few tips to manage this and hopefully make life easier!
